“The House of Tomorrow” is a feature-length movie by director Peter Livolsi, producers Tarik Karam and Danielle Renfrew Behrens, and executive producers Ellen Burstyn and Nick Offerman.
The film was shot at the 8 dome complex of Tessa Hill & Dennis Odin Johnson in North Branch, Minnesota. Their company, Natural Spaces Domes, designs, manufactures and constructs geodesic domes, operating out of their North Branch facility.
The House of Tomorrow was filmed during July 2016 in various parts of 4 domes on the North Branch property along with other sites in and around Minneapolis and St. Paul. The movie uses the domes for spectacular backdrops to the main characters in the film. The vast acreage provided space for 8 – 10 trailers used for production offices, dressing rooms, wardrobes, set furniture, props, along with space for 2 large tents for food prep and dining and the scores of cars used by the 40 to 50 person production crew, stars, and extras.

“The House of Tomorrow”: Asa Butterfield anchors an exemplary cast (Nick Offerman, Ellen Burstyn, and Alex Wolff) in a heartwarming feature about inventive minds and quirky families and friends. “House of Tomorrow” is a compassionate and funny coming-of-age tale about a teen (Butterfield) living cloistered away with his grandma (Burstyn) in a landmark eco-home and the unanticipated bond he develops with a volatile heart transplant recipient (Wolff) who loves punk rock music. Quite simply, it’s one of the best YA novel-adapted films I’ve seen..(April 8, SFMOMA; April 9, Dolby; April 13, SFMOMA)
