HEXA-PENT 24′ DIAMETER GEODESIC DOME $7,000

For sale is a partially prefabricated geodesic dome, un-assembled. It is a 5/8 of a sphere, 3 frequency dome, 24 feet in diameter and approximately 14 feet high at the center. This dome is comprised of 15 prefabricated panels consisting of 5 pentagons, 5 hexagons, and 5 half hexagons. The dome was built per plans developed and sold by Popular Science magazine. All panels are made with douglas fir 2X4 struts, 1” thick plywood gussets and sheathed with 1/2” thick MDO (medium density overlay) plywood. MDO is weather-resistant plywood produced with a thermosetting resin-impregnated fiber surface bonded to one or both sides under heat and pressure to create an exterior-grade plywood panel. MDO plywood is manufactured with waterproof resins that meet or exceed all veneer-grade, adhesion, and construction requirements. Signwriters find MDO is ideal and the panels of choice for Exterior Signs. All plywood exterior panels are attached with ring shank nails and construction adhesive to the struts.

Five additional hexagons and one pentagon panel are un-assembled and would make up the door and window panels for this dome. 2 X 4 cut struts, and gussets are pre-made. The hardware of galvanized 3/8” and 1/2” bolts, nuts and washers for assembly are included.

This dome also has 11 prefabricated floor panels, with the 12th intended to be built on-site. Materials for the 12th are included. Think of a pie, cut into 12 sections. Each section is constructed with 2 X 10 joists, 2 X 10 sub-joists and topped with 2 X 6 tongue and groove douglas fir decking. Galvanized 1/2” bolts for assembly of this circular shaped floor are included.

Also included are 2 sets of the plans for this geodesic dome, along with a 25-page specifications structural engineering study completed by Fuller & Sadao, Inc.
A scale model of the dome is also included.

This structure has been stored in a barn for 30+ years. It was built as a passion project by me but life got in the way and it was never erected. There is dust, some bird crap on it but no known damage to the components. I got too old, too soon to erect and enjoy this structure.

The components are stored near Baraboo, WI. Local pick-up only. I used a large U-haul to bring it to the barn. CASH ONLY. Price is firm. The estimated current cost of materials ALONE is +$15,000.

This would make an interesting cottage, studio, workshop (24 feet of clear span space) or other use.
