Buy a foreclosure home or a new dome?

Old vs. New

There are many older homes built in the pre 1940 era. Technologically these are seriously outdated homes. No insulation in the walls and very little in the roof. Most likely they have layers of lead based paint. Their windows are usually single pane with an outside storm window. Small, almost non-functional rooms, odd layouts or ill-conceived remodeling projects.

Homes from 1945 to 1975
- We built massive amounts of new houses to satisfy a population explosion that had a mostly ever increasing economy. But energy was "penny cheap" and not even considered a building factor. We built with some new materials like plywood and sheetrock but the methods and details remained (for the most part) wedded to the previous era.

Homes from 1975-2000
- we thought we knew how to build the modern house but most of the time, we blew it. We missed the important details. We ended up with mold issues, ice dam problems in cold climates, air infiltration issues, and the use of cheap, imitation materials all of which destined the house for a short life.
