Natural Spaces Domes is located 40 miles north of Minneapolis/St. Paul Minnesota. We have an office dome, 3 model dome homes, a screen dome and 2 workshop domes. We invite you to visit us when you are in the area.

At the heart of our dome home system are the Super-Lok© patented connector system and Super-Wal double strut framework. Our dome technology is the most advanced in the industry - with good reason. It's based on in-the-field dome building experience starting in 1971. It's also based on all those enjoyable years living in domes since 1975.

Like no other dome you can buy, Natural Spaces Domes are easy to build, uniquely designed, and fantastically energy efficient while providing you the best housing value around.

Dennis Odin Johnson, with his late wife Janet, formed and operated The Big Outdoors People from 1972 to 1978, designing, manufacturing and building over 300 domes during that period.

They then formed Natural Spaces Domes in 1978 offering a re-designed state-of-the-art dome home building system featuring their patented Super-Lok connection hardware.

Janet passed away in August, 1999 (Memorial Site). As a Minnesota State Senator

since 1990, she became a legislative leader in environmental and alternative energy areas. Dennis is continuing the personal and business emphasis and dedication to energy and resource efficiency.

When it comes to experience, few can match Dennis's personal involvement and commitment to domes since 1971. Dennis comes from generations of builders and craftsmen. His personal background is based on over 43 years of residential planning and building including over 33 years in domes.

At Natural Spaces Domes, we are proud of our other employees, their commitment and their expertise:

Tessa Hill, Dennis' wife, brings her organizational skills as head of Kids For Saving Earth, board chair of Healthy Child Healthy World and board member of Beyond Pesticides. Keeping Natural Spaces Domes focused on what really matters - that is the next 7 generations and the health of spaceship earth;

  Jim DuPay started some 27 years ago and has been managing production and construction. His expertise in dome building details prove invaluable to the dome builder calling with that "special" question;

   Nancy Kriz is usually explaining the "ins and outs" of domes to new customers calling along with her other office manager duties;

  Dick Sindelar has over 15 years experience in manufacturing and constructing domes.

  Tim works as part of the NSD team in customer service and handles all of our computer technology issues including server, network, and computer maintenance, as well as advertising and our printed publications.

   We have several other valuable employees in the shop and office, all ready to help you build a better dome home.

In the 1970's extensive computer engineering of the dome shell was done by Hanley Associates and E. S. I. Engineers. Paul Durand, P.E., S.E., is our current consulting engineer with many years of dome experience. He can provide dome engineering certification for all 50 states, Canada and Mexico.

Natural Spaces Domes is a licensed Minnesota contractor (LIC# 7806). We specialize in working with owner-builders and owner-contractors.

We are also members of the NAHB (National Association of Home Builders). A more important affiliation is our membership and support in EEBA (Energy & Environmental Building Association). We participate in their training seminars and constantly review, investigate and implement the latest, most accurate data and information on building energy efficient, healthy to live in, environmentally friendly houses.

We are constantly refining the way we design and build domes using the inhabitants health and the health of our planet as the most important criteria.

There are many other dome companies who produce domes. You are not buying a simple pre-packaged kit. You are starting the process of what normally is your largest personal investment--your home.

Natural Spaces Domes has designed a simple pre-engineered dome building system that is a true owner-builder home. If you are not the owner-builder type, we offer assistance in the following ways:

• Natural Spaces Dome Construction School for owner-builders or your contractor.
• Natural Spaces construction supervisor/assistant to work with you or your contractor in erecting Natural Spaces components.
• Natural Spaces builder-dealer to build it for you or help you do it (very selected areas)
• Referral to a local contractor who has built a dome.
• Natural Spaces can recommend construction crews to build...permanent wood foundation, floor systems, dome shell, shingling, and siding. They can also install skylights, windows, doors, insulation, or interior panels.
